For the first time in over a year, Caitlin Clark is taking a significant break from basketball.
The star rookie who blew up the WNBA last season will not play in Unrivaled, the new professional women's 3-on-3 league, ESPN's Michael Voepel reported Wednesday.
Unrivaled was started by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart as a way for athletes like themselves to continue to play professional basketball during the WNBA off-season.
The inaugural six teams were drafted on Wednesday, but only 34 players have officially joined the league, leaving wild-card spots to be filled on two of the teams.
Given Clark played basketball straight through the 2023-24 college season, and then began playing in the WNBA immediately after, a break from competitive play like this is expected.
Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.7 assists in her first season of the WNBA, and helped the Indiana Fever reach playoffs for the first time since 2016.
